Tucson is currently facing a 32 million dollar deficit in it's budget. The council met on January 5, 2010 to discuss ways to bridge that gap. While the entire council listened to recommendations from the City Manager, one council member, Steve Kozachik, brought in his own list of possible cuts and fee increases to be considered. Council member Kozachik is also the newest member of the council and the only one who refused to drive a tax-payer paid for Prius. Will the rest of the council give up their cars as a symbol of servant leadership? Time will tell.

The Tucson City Council decided against a 2 percent renters tax and cutting funding to police and fire operations. The January 5, 2010 council meeting was attended by hundreds of people, several of whom voiced their concerns about the city's budget shortfall.
