Reality TV has been one of the most popular genres of entertainment on television since the premiere of Survivor over 12 years ago. And this summer you'll get a full plate of reality TV that people back then could have never imagined. From popular reality TV series returning to the airwaves to several new shows that delve into a wide variety of "realities," here's why you should be amped for reality TV this Summer 2012.
Favorites that are returning
The Glee Project, which was a huge hit last summer, is returning again for its second season with a whole new cast, including Ali Stroker, a popular wheelchair-using actress from NYU. Also Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels returns, as well as Monster-In-Laws, Cake Boss, Design Star, Whale Wars and the latest season of The Real Housewives of New York City. Other favorites like Storage Wars, Hell's Kitchen, Cajun Pawn Stars, Teen Mom, Destination Truth, Big Brother, Project Runway (10th season), The Bachelorette, America's Got Talent, The Next Food Network star are also returning.
A hodge podge of exciting new shows
Per the usual, several new shows are lined up to premiere this summer too. "Dogs in the City," featuring a New York City dock dog guru Justin Silver premiered on CBS in May. And a new dance reality show called "Breaking Pointe" also premiered on the CW in May, and follows the lives of performers at Ballet West in Salt Lake City, which is one of the most competitive dance companies in the country. Other new reality shows include "The Choice" (an updated version of “The Dating Game“) and the "The Glass House (ABC's version of "Big Brother”).
