Sometimes it's hard to believe that Dallas and Houston are in the same country, let alone in the same state. The two metropolitan areas have as many differences as they do commonalities. Both are home to some of America's largest corporate giants. Both have experienced rapid growth as people are drawn to the allure of warm weather and low taxes. Both enjoy a wide swath of cultural influences and fine dining options. Both boast professional sports franchises that have hoisted championship banners.
WHERE DALLAS HAS THE EDGE
One area in which these two great cities diverge is in the area of prices and available locations. For starters, the rental rates for
Dallas apartments are consistently 10 to 20 percent less than they are in Houston's inner-loop area. Dallas is also considered more of a "high-rise" city, compared to Houston's weightier "mid-rise" market. Dallas has more of its downtown and uptown space dedicated to apartment living, which both fosters and takes advantage of the density and pedestrian-friendly nature of downtown Dallas. For some, it may just be a matter of opinion, or of taste. The discerning tenant will dig deeper than that, and will be rewarded in Dallas.
CLOSER TO THE ACTION
Houses in the suburbs are a wonderful part of the American dream, but in places like
Dallas, apartments just make more sense. The variety, modernity and convenience of living in either uptown or downtown Dallas lends the kind of ease to living that cannot be found in another large American cities. The advantages to renting an apartment in Dallas are manifold, giving Big D an edge over its counterparts both in and out of the Lone Star State.
